The RETURN of CASA Retreats!

Christians Against Substance Abuse (CASA) groups began in 1983 to help respond to the needs of those who struggle with chemical addictions, alcohol and other drugs.   Over time, it became obvious that CASA groups could support all of us who struggle with other addictions not related to alcohol and other drugs.  Today, CASA groups can be a ministry to all of us!

It has been several years since a CASA Retreat has been held and the demand continues to grow to start up or enrich CASA efforts.  CASA groups continue to start up around the nation.

In response, the Kings Crossing Prison Ministry will host:

CASA RETREAT

October 21-23, 2022

The theme is “12 Steps to a Closer Walk with God”.  Cost is $20 a person, thanks to financial support from generous donations.  Whether you are a veteran group leader, a CASA participant, or desire to start a CASA group in your location, this CASA Retreat will equip you and encourage you.

Enjoy great company!        Sharpen your iron!            Fill your cup!

Kings Crossing Prison Ministries uses a large number of Bible-Study-by-Mail courses directed toward prisoners and an assortment of teaching tracts to reinforce the Bible lessons. Each is authored by experienced prison ministers and/or Christians having personally experienced incarceration and freedom. Research reveals that a person decides within five minutes if a publication will be of benefit. It is challenging to capture the interest of this population. This is the reason we use these materials. Wherever the U.S. mail goes, these tools can go; reaching men and women in locations within facilities where volunteers are not allowed. The teaching is systematic, like consistent building blocks over time. These same materials are shared with others for a minimal donation to cover costs and shipping.

All materials are on white paper with black ink to comply with the most rigid regulations of jails and prisons in the USA. Correspondence courses use ten review questions with multiple-choice responses for easy grading and speedier returns to maintain student enthusiasm. Lighter weight paper use reduces postage costs. A brief description of the available material are on the order form. The order form is to be printed out and completed. Then, it may be mailed, faxed, or scanned and emailed.

Since we will not know the shipping amount until shipped, a notice of the amount due will be mailed separately to the address you designate.

1. Click the form to open/print a copy.

2. Complete the form - include name, physical address, phone number (including area code)

3. Send it with your check or money order via U.S. Mail to the address below:

We will mail the amount due plus shipping after material is sent. The minimum shipping charge is $4.95. If the shipping exceeds $4.95, the amount is whatever amount we are charged to ship it to you. If you are unable to reimburse us, the materials will be supplied at no cost to you.

What is the “concept” of a Legacy Fund for prison ministry? Basically, these funds are “set aside” and earn interest for the purpose of insuring the permanence and long-term stability of the ministry until Jesus comes. The first requirement is to create and build a nest egg. This is difficult to do in a ministry that usually spends every penny it gets. This means that at some point, the ministry has to “bite the bullet” and decide to set funds aside. It’s easier to dream and talk than do.

Kings Crossing Prison Ministry is blessed to offer donors the option of two Legacy Funds to choose from: (1) The Rachel N. Kolb Legacy Fund that began December 2, 1993 or (2) The Buck & Janet Griffith Legacy Fund for Prison Ministries that started March 17, 2021. Both funds share the same purpose, so it does not make a difference if you select one over the other.

The “story” of the Kolb Fund is told in detail elsewhere. The “Griffith Fund Story” is told here.

Buck Griffith has given his life to jail and prison ministries, beginning in August 1971 in Dallas County Jail while serving as the preacher at Burbank Gardens Church of Christ in Grand Prairie, Texas. It was there that he and the late James Curry put together the first National Jail & Prison Ministry Workshop in 1974. Buck & Janet moved with their two children (Tishanne & Yancy) to Corpus Christi in 1977 where he soon was a fixture in Nueces County Jail.

Recognizing the lack of quality teaching materials available to directly address the needs of the incarcerated, Buck began authoring Bible study courses and tracts. These can still be secured through this website at minimal cost. In 1983, he opened a 90-day facility for parolees called the Christian Training School for Ex-Offenders (CTS). In 1988, he saw a lack of outreach and assistance of those suffering from multiple addictions and organized Christians Against Substance Abuse (CASA). Buck became a member of the board for Family Upreach, Inc. (dba: NewLife Behavior Ministries) – a curriculum-based program – in 1998. He was asked to become its President in 2002 and the central office was moved from Lancaster to share office space with Kings Crossing Prison Ministries at 3833 S. Staples, Suite S-101, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Buck has been the primary person seeking funding for both Kings Crossing Prison Ministries and Family Upreach, Inc. The time has arrived for Buck to step back from being the leader of these ministries and Dr. Dale Underwood is gradually assuming this role. Buck will continue to play an active role as long as he desires and is physically capable of doing so. In March 2021, Kenneth Rich called to suggest the creation of the Buck & Janet Griffith Legacy Fund for Prison Ministries and generously contributed the first $25,000.

This type of fund is normally established to recognize and honor persons after their death. In this case, however, Buck & Janet are very much alive but gifts to this fund will be like giving them a bouquet of flowers while living. As per their request, added gifts will be made in their memory when that time comes. The best part is that the same purpose is accomplished – dead or alive – and whether the contributions are made to the “Kolb” or “Griffith” account. May God receive all the praise, honor, and glory!

2020 “Annual Fund Drive” Kicks OFF

Here we are at “that” time of year again. It is October and our “Annual Fund Drive” is officially underway!

This important effort kicks off October 1 and ends in a flurry on December 31. We would prefer a dull ending but that would require everyone to make their year-end contribution early.

Our goal is to exceed $100,000 but it all starts with matching the first $35,000.

Many must wait until almost the last day of the year before they know exactly what they can do financially. We understand. Others send a donation in early October and send another right at the last minute!

What is purpose of the “Annual Fund Drive”?

First, how things start and end is important. We want to close 2020 and start 2021 in healthy ways. History has taught us to expect some lean times during the year. Like the wise ant, preparation must be made in the winter.

Secondly, we have exciting plans once this Covid-19 crisis gets behind us. The time to get ready is NOW. We encourage you to make your gift today, if possible. Since we try to keep track of progress made, please note “Annual Fund” on your check.

Thank you for your generosity but most of all, thank you for your prayers!

- Buck Griffith
